BYU Homecoming Week
Well I admit that we aren't the most spirited BYU family but we've taken part in some of the campus activities this week. Annabelle really enjoyed going to the parade on Saturday morning. The older kids around her quickly taught her that when candy was thrown from the floats that it is perfectly fine to run out into the street to snatch it. She eventually caught on. Whoever thought of throwing candy onto the street? All of our road safety has been has been undone! There were some really cool floats and performers.
Earlier in the week some of my neighbors and I took the kids on a little tour of campus. The idea behind it was that in 20 years they could be going to BYU and there are a few landmarks on campus that are likely to still be around. For example Mike's parents lived in the apartment building next to ours when they attended BYU 25 years ago - so who knows, maybe these buildings will last another few decades!

Guster Concert
Well I know it was a school night and everything but I felt like Mike deserved a suprise kidnapping. So last night I told him I would drive him to work but instead we went to the Guster Concert! It was a blast! When I pulled up to the ATM to get cash he hadn't quite caught on that we weren't going to work, but he was feeling somewhat anxious that I was wasting time and was going to make him late - so at one point he said in a very calm voice "Well then Tia you are just going to have to get out and walk home because I have got to go to work" We were only a few blocks from home mind you. At that point I started laughing so hard I couldn't hardly figure out how to work the drive-thru ATM. I announced that he wouldn't be going to work, he reponded "Well did you at least tell my work that I'm not going?" After hearing that work wasn't expecting him he begain to relax and realized that I had plans and wasn't just making him late. It was great - we were about 4 people back from the stage and I've never felt older in my life (being surrounded by high schoolers and college freshman) but it was great. Who allows their teenager go to a concert downtown on a school night anyway?

Student Family Housing Opening Social
Well this is old news but we had a blast on Saturday at the opening social. Annabelle had about 4 snow - conesand I am ashamed to admit that I had 3 whole hot dogs! I'll blame it on the fact that I hadn't eaten any breakfast and that we had been there all morning to help set up, and I had to off set the 3 snow- cones I had! Oh well, we kinda skipped dinner that night due to an overload on sugar and well . . . whatever it is that hot dogs are made of! See if you can spot Mike amongst the tug-o-warriors (hint: look for an angry-looking red head, Mike isn't too far off). There was so much there for kids to do, and prizes and contests too. Needless to say, Annabelle took a fantastically long nap that afternoon and enjoys telling everyone how she went to a castle - which in fact was a jumping castle. The highlight of the whole event for her.

You know you're from Colorado if . . .
You'll eat ice cream in the winter.
When the weather report says it's going to be 65 degrees, you shave your legs and wear a skirt.
It snows 5 inches and you don't expect school to be cancelled.
You'll wear flip flops every day of the year, regardless of temperature.
You have no accent at all, but can hear other people's. And then you make fun of them.
'Humid' is over 25%.
Your sense of direction is: Toward the mountains and Away from the mountains.
You say 'the interstate' and everybody knows which one.
You think that May is a totally normal month for a blizzard.
You grew up planning your Halloween costumes around your coat.
You know what the Continental Divide is.
You don't think Coors beer is that big a deal.
You went to Casa Bonita as a kid.
You've gone off-roading in a vehicle that was
never intended for such activities.
You always know the elevation of where you are.
You wake up to a beautiful, 80 degree day and you wonder if it's going to snow tomorrow.
You don't care that some company renamed it, the Broncos still play at Mile High.
Every movie theater has military and student discounts.
Everybody wears jeans to church.
You actually know that South Park is a real place not just a show on TV.
You know what a 'trust fund hippy' is, and you know its natural habitat is Boulder.
You know you're talking to a fellow Coloradoan when they call it Elitches, not Six Flags.
A bear on your front porch doesn't bother you.
Your two favorite teams are the Broncos and whoever is beating the crap out of the Raiders.
You've been to the original Chipotle near the DU campus on Evans.
When people out East tell you they have mountains in their state too, you just laugh.
You go anywhere else on the planet and the air feels 'sticky' and you notice the sky is no longer blue.
Well for you Coloradans out there I'm sure you identified with this list! I read through it with Mike last night and I didn't even realize that some of the items weren't normal for everybody. Like what else would people call the interstate? Apparently there is more than one! Flip flops in the snow? Deffinatly. Military discounts, mountains in the east, Casa Bonitas, Elitches? Is the rest of the world that naive? I think I would say that about 21 of these are true to Tia statements. Mike can relate to about 22 or 23. Anyway thanks to my father-in-law for forwarding this to me. You Coloradans out tell me how many items you relate to, and if you have any more statements we can add to the list. For those of you who were either bored or confused by this post, let me invite you to spend some time in Colorful Colorado!

Geyser in Provo
Old Faithful? Not quite. We turned the corner of our quad this afternoon to find a 40 foot geyser. Apparently a water main burst - causing an improv to neighborhood block party! Well we certainly enjoyed it. One last water fight of the summer I guess (since we can't go to the pool anymore). After a little over an hour they got the water turned off. Rumor was that along with us the MTC didn't have water for a while this evening - I wouldn't want to have to handle that situation.
Bored?
Apparently I was at least a little bored tonight. Annabelle and I conducted an experiment. What happens when you put curly hair into sponge curlers? The result: Bigger curls. She called all the curlers her "pigtails". Sometimes I am surprised how much Annabelle is willing to put up with :) oh well, it was fun!

Here We Are!
Well I've been feeling somewhat guilty lately because I have so much fun looking at our friends blogs and I've contributed nothing to this crazy online method of keeping friends and family updated with our lives. So a lazy Saturday afternoon and a few things that needed procrastinating seems to be the perfect recipie for me to create "Sherwood Shenanigans". To give credit where it is due, Mike thought up the "shenanigans" bit - he is the creative cat of the family.
